New Year’s Eve Review

Great night on Friday and an excellent way to welcome in the new year!  It was a lively night as expected and I think we got the right balance between karaoke and general music.  It was refreshing to see plently of new karaoke singers as well.

With help from The Ship we managed to raise £185.23 which is already on its way to Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire Air Ambulance.  Thanks to everyone that donated and the following establishments for putting up the prizes:

Spice Express (Holbeach)
Eastern Paradise (Holbeach)
Maritime Cruises (Boston)
The Ship Inn (Fosdyke)

A huge thanks to John B who auctioned off his bottle of Vokda (which he won on the raffle) for £26 which kindly went into the pot.

Happy New Year from Matt & Tim @ V Karaoke.

Karaoke Tips

We’ve compiled the following advice to help you enjoy karaoke nights:

Pick songs that you know

You wouldn’t believe how many people select songs just because they know the chorus.  The rest of the song they are just mumbling because they don’t know the tone of the song.  Choose songs that you know well and enjoy singing.  Yes the words are on the screen but this isn’t always enough.

Interact with the KJ

If you’re struggling with a song then ask the KJ to help, that’s what they’re there for.  They can slow down (or speed up) the music, change the key or even sing along with you.

Be clear with your song requests

When filling out request slips be clear with what you want to sing and specify if you want to sing a particular version of a song.

Be ready

Most KJ’s work on a fair rotation system, so if you’ve put your first song in of the night, chances are you’ll be called up soon.  Be ready and listen out for your name.  You don’t want to be caught out and rushing up to sing your song.

Relax and enjoy yourself

I think this one goes without saying but the most important thing is to relax and enjoy the yourself.  Tension comes out in your voice so compose yourself before signing.
